Rose Garden

Rose canes ingeniously wired to the top of a chain-link fence. The thorny stems end their days as barricade-assistants, helping out the two rather casual-looking strands of barbed wire protecting this large community garden. An organic answer to the coils of commercial razor-wire protecting famous American enclosures like Guantanamo. Observed at mid-afternoon under the blank blue sky above the Mission, San Francisco.
