Artist General

Today I was in the Castro to do some weekend errands and savor the warm sunshine. The tidy proclamation illustrated above was pasted to the side of a newspaper vending box, and I noticed it when I came out of the grocery store. I am not sure what it means, but am guessing it is an admonition to walk forward instead of backward.

The San Francisco weather was miraculous. The Castro was unusually loud. First I encountered a Prop 8 Protest. Then a bit later a Pro-Palestinian protest. The Palestinian advocates had marched from somewhere else and were rallying under the enormous rainbow flag at Castro and Market waving their own flags (both Palestinian and Rainbow) and chanting, Free Palestine! Free Palestine! We're here! We're queer!

On the other side of Castro a much smaller group held Israeli and American flags. Ah, but they had a bullhorn! If you went over to Palestine, you know what? They'd want nothing to do with you! In Palestine, you'd be the first to go!

So do gay politics unexpectedly rub up against Middle East politics.
