SFPL

Mabel Watson Payne and I went to the big round room for tiny children at San Francisco Public Library in Civic Center. She had to prompt me as we went along, reminding me how to negotiate ramps and elevators with the stroller. Today was our first independent trip to the Library.

A little boy shared Mabel's interest in the miniature wooden pretend-book-return chute. She loved pulling on that handle, opening that chute, and sailing down book after book.

She was still feeling a little jet-lagged and depleted (hence the comforting pacifier) but gamely kept on doing her duty of exploring the world around her and finding out what its gymnastic possibilities might be.
