Philip Wilson Steer (1860-1942) painted many French-looking visions of summertime in the late 1880s. He was one of the earliest English artists to get bit by the Impressionist bug. Several of these sample-pictures are from the large Steer collection at Tate Britain, whose site offers a good pithy account of the artist here.
