Sand Dinners

On Friday afternoon Mabel Watson Payne discovered a plastic toy in the sand with no owner in sight. She asked if she could play with it and I said sure why not, except we had to be ready to give it up if some other child came for it. Mabel took a great liking to this toy with its funnel and its crank and its paddle wheel.

She decided to use the abandoned toy to make dinner for me. Then she delivered the dinner. Then it was my job to pretend-eat the dinner out of the funnel. It was especially important that I make eating noises. This was a popular game. I ate several sand dinners.
