Prang's American Chromo published these images of the American West in the middle 1870s. The technique of color reproduction known as chromolithography fell out of use in the early 20th century. This group is preserved  in the Prints and Photographs collection at the Library of Congress. They were created in the spirit of an earlier, venerable, European fashion for the "Romantic Sublime" in landscape (as in poetry).
