Stairs & Steps









Starting in the late 1920s and continuing through the 1930s Frances Benjamin Johnston created the Carnegie Survey of the Architecture of the South, a photo-archive of more than 7,000 glass-plate images preserved at the Library of Congress. I think staircases were her favorite subject. Flights of stone steps in gardens also tended to attract attention.
